so i finally figured out one-shoulder hooping last night!

let me confess this before i go on: i have most of my hooping breakthroughs when i've got a bit of a buzz going. i think it's because i'm loosened up physically, and i'm more interested in having fun and not worrying so much about how OMG i suck at hooping.

anyways, so the boyfriend and i took the dog out so he could run around and do his business while we played with our respective big kid toys (my hoop and his foam swordfighting). for some reason, when i hoop with no music "the entertainer" always ends up playing in my head and kind of influences my hooping so that my style is more loping and slow. i like to play with shifting my weight and balance while hooping, and slow hooping is perfect for this.

so i'm hooping around and kind of reveling in my flow when i decide to try one-shoulder hooping again. i've been working on this for a couple weeks now, and could do it with one arm in no problem, but everytime i tried to just use my shoulder the hoop would fly off as soon as i ducked my head out.

this video is a great tutorial for shoulder hooping just so you understand what i'm talking about :)

i try shoulder hooping a couple times, with the hoop flying off but at least i start getting a real solid feel for the shoulder motion. then i try again and OMG IT HAPPENS. the hoop sucessfully rotates around my shoulder with my head ducked out and doesn't fly off! my next 15 attempts or so are hit or miss, with most being hit though :)

ahh, this is so exciting! now all i need to get is knee hooping and my hooping will open up to a whole new level!
