i love bodies in motion.  the intimacy, the feeling, how personal movement is.  often imitated, but never the same.  i am not very good at expressing my thoughts and emotions in words, but through dance i am learning!  i hooped for a solid hour today to a very eclectic mix - dubstep, tribal, bluegrass...it was lovely.  besides the wonderful calming effects, it gave me a chance to work on my flow since i'm going to (hopefully) be doing a whole lot of hooping this weekend :)

but there was one song that made me put down my hoop, and just move.  "ripple" by the grateful dead is a song that holds a lot of meaning for me; hearing it live last year at all good when i was alone sitting up on that big hill was such an...anchoring experience.  i don't really know if that's the best word, but it's the one that comes to mind.  i was feeling lost and a little uneasy (there were some other factors involved, it is a hippie festival after all) but phil lesh singing that gentle song put my soul at ease.  today dancing to it, i felt those same emotions.  jerry's voice and the soft guitar wash away all my anxiety, my frustration, my anger.  i am so very grateful for little things like this.  i want to share this song with you, and hope that maybe, even if you don't like it, you can appreciate its message.

there is a road, no simple highway,
between the dawn and the dark of night,
and if you go no one may follow,
that path is for your steps alone.

ripple in still water,
when there is no pebble tossed,
nor wind to blow.

you who choose to lead must follow
but if you fall you fall alone,
if you should stand then who's to guide you?
if i knew the way i would take you home.
